Adult Class 1: Light, Truth & Love: The Letters of John (Bible Study)
In the Letters of 1, 2, and 3 John, the Apostle sets forth the reality that God has been revealed in Christ in order to communicate eternal life to those who believe. God is Light, Truth, and Love – each of these characteristics is the subject of John's message and placed in connection with the development of corresponding spiritual "fruit" in the believer. Each of John's Letters aim to answer practical questions and concerns, such as, "How can we know we are truly rescued sinners?" (1
John) "How can we love people well, without leaving the truth behind?" (2 John) and "How do we teach the truth, but do so in a loving manner?" (3 John) Unlike the Apostle Paul, John's ideas are not reasoned logically from point to point. As an example, the final statements in 1 John, that God is light, and that Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin, are already stated in the first few verses. Thus, John argues thematically, and elaborates by spiritual reasoning throughout these Letters. The language of John is not difficult to understand, but the scriptural truths are simultaneously profound and practical for believers. This study is led by Jeremy Dalton and Ross Turner.

Adult Class 2: The Bruised Reed – Comfort for the Weary Christian(Book Study)
Why read The Bruised Reed? Because you need to be reminded that there is more mercy in Christ than sin in you. This book is a certified Christian classic, and every Christian should read it more than once. Richard Sibbes (1577-1635), one of the most influential figures in the Puritan movement during the earlier years of the seventeenth century, was renowned for the rich quality of his ministry. The Bruised Reed shows why he was known among his contemporaries as “the sweet dropper.” Of all Richard Sibbes’ works, The Bruised Reed has had the most enduring impact. The book is an exposition of Matthew’s application to Jesus regarding the description of the Servant of the Lord in Isaiah 42:3 (Matthew 12:15-21). Sibbes’ wonderfully sensitive treatment has ministered to generations of Christians since its first publication in 1630. This study is led primarily by Larry Lafreniere. Books will be provided.

Adult Class 3 - Sing to the Lord
(Four-Week Class – Join Another at Conclusion)
And now for something completely uncontroversial - Church Music! This Four-Week mini-session will explore the theological, historical, and worldview underpinnings of music in Christian worship. The practical goal of this class is to equip participants to better appreciate and understand music as an art form by learning to evaluate hymns and songs as creative efforts that reflect our Creator. To that end, we'll study scripture, philosophy, church history, and a good bit of music itself. Music-major geeks rejoice, musical examples will be included! At the conclusion of this Class, we'd like to encourage each student to jump into one of the other Adult Classes ongoing for the remainder of the Fall semester. This class is led by Matthew Smith.
